Safety Talk: Using Person-First Language
Our Safety Talk series of videos and info sheets are intended to support conversations with your coworkers. They were developed for those who work in tourism and hospitality, in partnership with go2HR.
What is Person-First Language?
Person-first language is a way of talking that focuses on the person, not their problems or conditions. It helps avoid hurtful labels that make people feel misunderstood and isolated. Using person-first language makes sure that we are treating everyone with respect, particularly those facing mental health challenges. This makes it easier for people to talk about challenges and seek the help they need to feel better. Simple changes in our language can help create a workplace where everyone feels valued and respected.
