In tourism and hospitality, a safe and supportive workplace goes beyond physical safety, it includes protecting psychological well-being. This session explores common psychological hazards that impact staff and service quality, along with tools and resources to control or manage them, based on WorkSafeBC’s Framework for Psychological Health and Safety. Participants will learn practical strategies to build a workplace culture where employees feel respected, supported, and confident to speak up, leading to stronger teams, safer workplaces, and better guest experiences.

Session objectives:

  • Understand what psychological health and safety (PHS) means in a hospitality and tourism context.
  • Identify common workplace psychological hazards and how to manage them
  • Apply simple tools to start integrating PH&S practices into daily operations.
  • Recognize their role in building a safe, respectful, and supportive workplace culture.
